This Tv is perfect for my requirements. I hesitated a lot between this and the 32 size which has higher specs and is cheaper (amazing) and has rave reviews. However I dont really want a TV that is too big to carry and I really dont like the 'piano black' that a lot of other models have. This TV has a sophisticated matt black (a bit glossy) finish which is perfect for watching films with the lights lowered, the matt finish becaomes part of teh shadows. I understand 'piano black' is difficult to keep clean too. Its Ok for a young family or a couple perhaps who need a big Tv as a centrepiece but I want mine to be a bit less obstrusive. I note too that the 'subtitle' function is easy to access. I was worried it might have inferior performance because the contrast ration is half (15000) that of the V series (including the 32 size which is cheaper). But i needn't have worried. It really is a lovely Tv, easy to handle. A doddle to set up. the design is lovely too, all black except the thin silver line at the bottom. Very classy. thanks Sony and Amazon.

I spent a long time looking for a tv for my father who is 70, and the 15" Philips cathode TV though still brilliant picture quality was becoming a strain for him to watch.
So I did a lot of research and it was down to either a Sony or Toshiba.
There was no need for full 1080p as the input was going not to be HD for the bedroom just the in built freeview tuner and may be a sky box.
When I saw this and read the specs I was amazed at the price..lets just say its the best price I found compared to any of the other major retailers ..with free delivery.
Ordered the tv wednesday it arrived 7.30 on saturday by a happy citylink courier guy who said when i opened the door..got a nice new tv for you mate. Great Service.
But the best was yet to come. Unpacked the TV put the stand on plugged it in and connected the aerial...and in 6 minutes it was up and running.
And the picture quality through the in built tuner ..is amazing.
It picked up all channels using an the old aerial we have that is 25 years old...as i was worried we would need new digital aerial. All i can say is try your old aerial first before spending money on a digital aerial, you may not need one.
connected the sky box and the picture is just as good. have to say I turned down the backlight setting from 7 default to 5 as it less strain on the eyes..but that's a personal choice.
The sound is great too , more than enough for a bedroom, and even a living room as it was set-up and tested in the living room first.
And what I loved best..was that the instruction manual is all in English. Not a multi language book that sometimes comes with electronic goods.
So to round up this tv was a great buy at an amazing price with free delivery.
Just do a search on Tesco or Asda's site at the price and I think you will have a heart attack...and they even hadn't had delivery yet as the TV is that new ....
Amazon I thank thee lots .

Sony Kdl 37 Hdtv Lcd Review.

Kdl 37

Ordered on Monday 22 Dec 2008. Delivered at 9am next morning. Can't argue with that for service. Setup of the TV is simple and quick. SD channels look great and even 2 metres away are still impressive and not pixilated. Analogue are there but unnecessary and not brill.

The 37" screen is great for a typical lounge (mine is about 3.8m X 3.8m) and the viewing from the typical L-shaped sofa and obligatory two armchairs is not too big or too small. Action is handled well and colours/blacks and whites very good.

I did consider a 40" inch but as this TV is in a corner, a 40" would have meant that it starts to creep into the lounge and dominate. I also considered Full HD but came to the conclusion that I don't need it just yet. You need to be honest with yourself and lets face it, most of us watch digital SD TV and this TV is great for that.

I have a Sony HDD with 1080i (another Amazon purchase a few weeks back for my 26" sony). The picture quality on the 37" is fantastic with this and DVD's plus recorded material are stunning. The SD channels are also improved even further.

You may need to fiddle with the video settings (back light and contrast) to find something that pleases your eye after you turn it on. Plenty on the web and AV forums etc on this theme. Also the sound is a step up from any other TV I have ever owned. There is actually bass coming out of this set... Very useful as I have not yet set up my home cinema amp/speakers in the lounge yet and am in the process of moving music to the HDD unit.

I also have photos on the HDD unit and they look good (and sound good with the audio screenshow photo feature on the HDD drive).

My one concern before purchase was that glossy black bezel. Would it be like watching a TV surrounded by a mirror. No need to worry it is harmless and not at all intrusive under most lighting conditions.

In summary, a good product at a good price that meets my needs. And that is the key.....be honest with yourself....what are your real needs from a TV.

Sony Kdl 40 Hdtv Lcd Review

I've had this tv for a couple of months now. It really is excellent, I can't think of any negatives. The colours and contrast are good (really good blacks). It makes a fairly good job of SD pictures, but HD (from bluray or upscaled dvd on PS3) it is truly stunning, everyone should get a copy Planet Earth in bluray to show it off!
I had been looking at lcd tv's for a while, standing comparing them all in shops for ages. When I first heard about this one coming out I wasn't sure how good it would be as everything sounded great except it didn't have 100Hz. I had previously seen an X3500 (which has 100Hz "Motion flow") next to a V3000 and the V3000 looked really jerky by comparison (when watching some football and scrolling through credits), so I was thinking I would have to fork out the extra for a tv with 100Hz. Well with the W4000 they must have done something clever because it looks at least as good as the X3500 when there is motion.
Being able to stick in a memory stick to show off pictures is a handy little feature too (though I wouldn't leave it on all the time as a picture frame!).
I think it even looks nice (never did like the big blocky frame of the X series), I would recommend this tv to anyone.

I bought this TV mainly for the PS3 and its blu-ray player. I don't use it to watch TV programs. The technical specs can be taken from the product description. :)

  • Great design, but gets dusty easily (just like the PS)
heavy, you'll need two people to assemble and move it about
  • The xross media bar is brilliant, self explanatory and easy to use
  • Picture quality is great, especially with 1080p movies, brilliance is best when watched from front but viewing from the sides (or above/below) is perfectly acceptable
  • Don't even try to watch low res stuff on such a big screen, it looks just awful (expected)
  • The sound is perfectly alright, but if you want home cinema experience of course you'd have to go for additional speakers
